The health ministry on Sunday announced 20 new cases.of coronavirus, bringing the total to 446. One more death, of a 76-year-old man, was also reported, bringing the total to 10 deaths associated with COVID-19.
Eighteen of the new cases concerned contacts with others who had already tested positive. Two more are still being investigated.
One of the people tested positive on Sunday is among the tests taken by Aradippou residents.
From 21 cases that were being investigated, 17 have been traced back to a contact and 4 are being investigated.
Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that 317 of the 446 confirmed cases are from contact with other people found positive to Coronavirus.
10,946 tests have been conducted so far by CING, the microbiology departments of Okypy hospitals and by private labs. 37 people have so far been cured of the virus.
NIPD Genetics has concluded sample-taking for Aradippou. Yesterday 3 people were found positive from 38 tests conducted, and today 1 was found positive from 178 tests.
Dr. Leontios Kostrikis said that the progressive reduction in recent days fills experts with optimism as to the effectiveness of measures, but noted that scientifically it is too early to jump to conclusions.
He added that the method of tracing works well globally and especially in Cyprus due to its small size but warned that many withhold information on their recent contacts, complicating the tracing process.
