The health ministry on Thursday confirmed 20 new cases of Coronavirus in Cyprus out of out of 2905 lab tests and which bring the total to 735.
The new confirmed cases are:
- 10 cases found from the large-scale 20,000 tests in workers (1742 tests today)
- 7 through tracing of the contacts of positive cases (600 tests)
- 2 from private labs (141 tests)
- 1 from private initiative (303 tests)
Moreover 147 tests were held among repatriating passengers. All tested negative.
From Saturday, April 11 until 4 pm today a total of 4776 tests were completed today from the government’s mass testing program for workers in the private and public sector.
Dr Leontios Kostrikis said the team was ‘very happy’ with today’s numbers which are in line with objectives set and the result of a collective effort.
“If we continue in the same way then we are certain the news will get even better,” he said.
Dr Marios Loizou said that whereas the number of coronvirus cases worldwide as well as the number of deaths was rising, Cyprus has managed to stabilise its own figures.
He said that at 3 pm on Thursday, there were 19 coronavirus patients at Famagusta Hospital, the referral hospital for the virus, three of them in the increased care unit.
Five patients were discharged today.
A total of nine patients are intubated in the Nicosia and Limassol ICUs, while another three patients are in the Nicosia ICU but are not intubated.
The condition of all the patients is described as critical but steady.
