The conflicts between AKEL and Ministry of Education that AKEL has been denied access to education for a month and a half now AKEL is already at odds with the Ministry of Education regarding the accessibility of students to distance education.
AKEL, through the head of the Education Office, Christos Christofidis, complained to the ministry on Friday that it lacks a large portion of students and does not have access to distance education due to financial and other problems.
He accused the ministry of presenting a falsified image, hiding the truth. As Christos Christofidis said, “for the past month and a half, it has been a fact that a percentage of our students, the poorest, have been thrown out of the education system. The state expects donations to meet any needs, while thousands of children are deprived of their basic human right to access to education. “
AKEL’s allegations were rejected by the Minister of Education on Saturday afternoon, noting that AKEL ignores the facts and events.
“The Ministry not only did not ignore but took care to immediately cover needs and deficiencies,” said Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou, stressing that “through savings and without further burdening the state budget, it financed about half of the needs covered, despite that tackling social inequalities and material shortages is not primarily his responsibility. “
AKEL, however, through Mr. Christofides, returned, insisting that hundreds of children are out of the educational process because they do not have the necessary access to technology due to their economic and social situation.
“All of these children are deprived of a basic human right: free access to education,” he said.
