Authorities issued a red alert on Saturday over the severe risk of forest fires due to high temperatures.
The fire alert follows the yellow weather warning issued by the met office on Friday, which applies until 4 pm on Saturday with maximum temperatures expected to reach 42 degrees Celsius inland and 33C in the mountainous areas.
In the coastal areas, temperatures are expected to be lower: 32C on the west coast and around 34C elsewhere.
The forestry department said that there was a high risk of forest fires and raised the alert level to red. It called on the public to avoid any activity that could cause a fire.
The same temperatures are expected on Sunday, while a gradual drop could occur on Monday and Tuesday.
The forestry department urged public members to immediately call 1407 or 112 (Fire Service) if they see smoke or fire.
