A 24-year-old who is suspected to have been involved in the attempted murder of a 34-year-old woman on Sunday night was on Monday remanded into police custody for eight days.
The 24-year-old was arrested earlier in the morning after a woman was shot and injured in Leopetri, Famagusta on Sunday evening.
At around 8.45pm the 34-year-old woman was shot twice with a hunting gun while she was on the veranda of her house in the village.
She was immediately rushed to Famagusta general hospital where she was diagnosed with multiple back injuries.
According to doctors at the hospital she is in a stable condition.
Evidence pointed to the involvement of a 24-year-old man who was arrested early on Monday morning to facilitate further investigations.
Police are investigating illegal possession, transport and use of a gun and explosive material against the suspect in addition to the attempted murder.
Famagusta police spokesman Andreas Constantinou also said the relationship between the suspect and the victim is being investigated.
